WWA Scholarship Program

Annual Visual Arts Scholarship Program

 

Over the last 10 years, Waterway Art Association of Calabash has offered and awarded an annual $1,000 dollar visual arts scholarship to assist graduating senior high school students who enroll at a college or university and have been accepted into a fine arts course as either a major or minor.

Who and When to Apply

Applications will be accepted from any 2026 graduating high school senior attending a school in either Brunswick or Horry Counties who has been accepted as an entering full-time student to a college, university or community college in 2026. The student must have fine arts experience in school and/or in the community.

Applications must be received no later than May 1st, 2026.


Free Membership for a year!

In addition to receiving a scholarship, the winner(s) in 2026 will receive a free one-year membership to Waterway Art Association and the right to enter 2D art in the Waterway Art Association Spring Art show in April 2027 with no entry fee. Art entered to this show must comply with the show prospectus published on the Waterway website.

Waterway Art Association was established in 1991. Waterway Art Association is a non-profit organization of local. Its vision is to be the leading association in promoting and celebrating the arts. It fulfills its mission with art exhibits and shows, workshops, demonstrations, indoor and outdoor painting sessions as well as trips to regional art venues and by offering scholarships to high school seniors who are going on to study higher education in the arts. WWA Scholarship Requirements

  • 2026 Graduating high school senior from Brunswick County Schools, NC or Horry County  Schools, SC.  
  •  Acceptance for a 2026 entering full-time student to a college or university,  junior/community college.  
  •  Fine Arts experience in school and/or the community, and acceptance into a major or minor in an arts area from the institution of higher learning.

Use this check list to ensure you have included everything for the scholarship application

 

  • I will graduate from a High School in either Brunswick or Horry Counties in 2026
  • The completed application and all support material must be received by WAA no later than May 1st 2026. 
  • The Application and support material need to be submitted via email to waterscholar14@gmail.com.
  • The scholarship money will be paid directly to the College/University under your Student ID#.
  • The Scholarship money will be applied to the 1st Semester.
  • I must be enrolled as a full-time student for 2026 and be accepted into a Fine Arts Major or Minor course.
  • If I subsequently decide not to attend College/University starting in 2026 I must immediately advise WAA.
  • I  understand that if I win a scholarship, WAA has the right to publish images of my portfolio on their website, WaterwayArt.org, and Waterway Art Association Facebook and Instagram sites, along with a photo of me being presented with the scholarship.
  • If I am under 18 years at the time of this application, my Parents/Guardian have permitted WAA to publish the images described immediately above.
  • I have signed and dated the Application
  • If necessary, my Parent/Guardian has signed the application
  • Along with the application, I have included a personal narrative with a list of my accomplishments.  
  • A letter of acceptance to a college or university as a full-time student enrolled in a Fine Art Course (Major or  Minor). 
  • Two letters of reference: from individuals who know you well and can provide specific examples of your character, skills, and achievements, such as teachers, professors, employers, coaches, or community leaders.  
  • 3 Portfolio images in JPG format 
  • My official high school academic transcript. 
  • My Student ID # to College/University.
  • College/University contact information for Financial Aid Department.
