"Everything's Coming Up Roses”
Drop-off is February 16 2-5 PM
You may enter 3 pieces. 2D and 3D.
“Everything is Coming Up Roses” symbolizes a moment when life flourishes with unexpected beauty and success. It’s a celebration of resilience and optimism, where challenges transform into opportunities, and the mundane bursts into vivid color. This piece explores the interplay between struggle and triumph, evoking a sense of hope and possibility that blooms even in the most unlikely places.
A show titled Everything’s Coming Up Roses could take a broader, metaphorical approach, using the phrase as inspiration for artworks that celebrate growth, optimism, and transformation. Here are some types of compositions that expand beyond roses or flowers:
1. Abstract Vibrancy: Bold, colorful compositions that convey the energy of renewal and positivity, using dynamic shapes and lines to evoke the spirit of “everything blooming.”
2. Narrative Portraits: Figurative works depicting individuals or communities overcoming challenges, symbolizing personal or collective triumphs that align with the idea of things “coming up roses.”
3. Conceptual Sculptures: Installations using unexpected materials (metal, glass, fabric) arranged in forms that suggest upward movement, progress, or transformation.
4. Surreal Landscapes: Whimsical settings where natural and human-made elements intertwine, representing a utopian vision of harmony and abundance.
5. Text-Based Art: Typography-driven pieces that incorporate phrases, poetry, or mantras about hope and perseverance, visually interpreting the optimism of the show’s title.
6. Mixed Media Collages: Works that juxtapose symbols of struggle (barbed wire, thorns, industrial decay) with elements of beauty and hope, creating a narrative of resilience.
7. Kinetic Art: Moving sculptures or interactive pieces that evolve or “bloom” as viewers engage with them, embodying the dynamic nature of growth and renewal.
8. Cultural Symbolism: Art inspired by global traditions, myths, and stories where symbols of progress, resilience, or fortune resonate with the “rosy” outlook.
This show would celebrate the triumph of positivity, using a variety of forms and interpretations to reflect the many ways we find light amid life’s challenges.
"Boundaries”
Boundaries - a juried show at
Sunset River Gallery, Calabash NC
Where does one thing end and another begin?
This show invites artists to explore the limits, edges, and intersections that define our lives, identities, and perceptions.
Some of the many themes to explore:
Personal boundaries: explore vulnerability, intimacy, or the spaces we create to protect ourselves.
Physical boundaries: borders, territories, and migration, and the impact of those on our lives
Societal Boundaries: race, gender, class, or cultural divides, highlighting inclusion or exclusion
Conceptual Boundaries: abstract works pushing the boundaries of form, medium, or viewer interpretation
We are looking for work that inspires conversations on how boundaries are drawn, crossed, or erased, offering a space for reflection and dialogue.
This is a show for 2D art.
Sunset River Gallery, located in Calabash NC, has been a staple of the local and regional art community for over 20 years. We are a 10,000 square foot gallery, representing around 100 artists and fine craftspeople.
