Janet Boschker recently moved to Shallotte from Charlotte where she loved freezing time for clients by photographing their children and families for over 30 years. She studied art at Greensboro College, but the responsibilities career and family put her passion for painting on the back burner until about 10 years ago. During her photography career, she was fortunate to be able to travel for work, enabling her to create a large collection of photographs for future paintings. She enjoys working in oil, acrylic, and cold wax. Plein air painting has become a favorite pastime as she is inspired by the landscape wherever she goes and is excited to explore the coast's beauty. I am a self taught artist who retired from the corporate world to follow my passion for art. Originally from Maryland, Coastal Brunswick became my home in 2014. My inspiration comes from native wildlife, area beaches and the ocean.
I enjoy painting with acrylics and watercolor, while exploring various mediums to add texture and depth. The subject matter dictates which mediums I choose. I love the vibrant color of acrylics which add boldness and whimsy, while watercolor allows for a softer, gentler feel.
My paintings are in private collections across the US and Ireland. In 2012, I was honored to have one of my watercolors published in the book, “The American Mastiff “ by Anthony A. Williams. In 2023, one of my watercolors also received an award.
In addition to painting and teaching art, I enjoy reading and spending time with family and friends.

Studied watercolor with Louise Stahl, Ranulph Bye, AWC, Cyril Gardner and oil & acrylic painting with Steve Vasilou, among others. Taught painting with WV N Community College and private studio classes for 20 years.
Worked professionally in advertising as an illustrator and as creative director for a regional advertising company in the Midwest. Painting has always been a joy and now as a retiree, a serious endeavor. The beautiful landscape and coastal scenery of North Carolina is an inspiration and many friends have been made through painting.
Coming from West Virginia mountains to the eastern coast, first Delaware and now North Carolina, I have enjoyed the wonderful light and the sunrises and sunsets and coastal life of the region.
I am fortunate to have many works in collections in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and North Carolina. I currently exhibit at Sunset River Market Place in Calabash and Franklin Square Gallery in North Carolina.
My journey in acrylic painting began in 2018 by attending classes at Sertoma Arts Center in Raleigh NC. In the time since, I relocated to Sunset Beach NC and retired, which has allowed more opportunity to put brush to canvas, to seek inspiration, and to connect with the local art community through Waterway Art Association.

In the time since, I relocated to Sunset Beach NC and retired, which has allowed more opportunity to put brush to canvas, to seek inspiration, and to connect with the local art community through Waterway Art Association.
Although painting birds has been a primary interest, I continue to explore my artistic voice by experimenting with various subjects, mediums, and styles, including mixed media. In addition to painting, I participate in a photo club to help improve my photographic skills and techniques.
I look forward to sharing my work in local art shows and library art displays.

Allison Fanelli is a retired Registered Nurse and life-long artist. Starting with a love of drawing as a child, she worked with ceramics and painted for 30 yrs, ran an arts and crafts business in her 30’s, and now devotes much of her time creating in retirement as “The Artful Nurse”. The recent sales of her art benefit Almost Home Dog Rescue, a non-profit she has been involved in since 2006.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Allison relocated to Calabash in 2020, where she finds inspiration in this coastal area which is reflected in much of her art. Allison is a self-taught artist and loves to create using acrylics, watercolor and glass mosaics. Most of her work is a mix of these, but she’s always looking for new ways to express herself through art.
Allison’s best times are spent with her husband and two dogs, Ranger and Driver. She enjoys the beach, cooking for family and friends and exploring her new state.
I am retired from M&M Mars. My wife and I moved to North Myrtle beach in 2019 from New Jersey. I joined WAA in 2022. I have been painting and sketching for roughly 10 years now and enjoy portrait, still life and figurative painting. I use mostly acrylics, watercolor, and charcoal and graphite on paper.

I have spent most my life in factory and maintenance settings. While not being able to work due to the flood in 2015, I told my wife I have always wanted to try painting. So at 54 I tried water color and soon found I enjoyed painting with acrylics. I am self-taught with no formal training.
My paintings have been displayed and sold in shops in Calabash, Conway and Myrtle Beach. Along with entering my paintings in few art shows and being commissioned for many paintings, I have painted two book covers for my wife who writes mystery books.
I have been watercolor painting for about thirteen years. I retired after 40 years as an RN in NC and NH. My husband and I moved back down here from NH when our son and daughter-in-law had triplets. They also have a son 2 years older than the triplets. We're the lucky grandparents who get to live next door to them, which is such a joy.

I enjoy the whimsy of watercolor, and am not a realist! I have never been so relaxed and happy as when I’m painting.

Allie describes a successful creation as one which engages the viewer to find personal meaning in response to her work, given their unique life story and experiences. What the
viewer brings to understanding her work is as critical to this interpretation as what Allie lays on the paper or canvas or wooden block.
For Allie, color and the dance it performs with light and texture, brings life and meaning to her work. What may begin with a wet into wet wash of watercolor, may get texturized or collaged or have layers of liquid acrylic built upon its surface as the creation unfolds. Much of her work is abstract expressionistic in style done in a in water-based medium, but at times is very objective and may may be created in oil or pastel or alcohol ink or even encased in resin!
Experimental exploration of media and substrate keeps her work vital and her
interest in creating art alive. Her latest venture involves pouring watercolor paint.
“We are so blessed to enjoy life … God gave me whatever talent I have for a greater purpose. In a world where we can
send orbiters throughout the rings of Saturn, no one on this planet should be without clean water” so half of my proceeds
have supported clean water wells in Africa for several years.”

Grandparents, never underestimate the power of your influence! As a youngster, I watched my grandfather, with great curiosity, as he worked in his studio. “Wow, isn’t that cool”, I thought. Having seen him carve, model, and experiment with paints and surfaces, I determined that there was nothing else in the world I would rather be than an artist. Excelling in art came naturally to me, and after graduating from art school, my professional career spanned the advertising and publishing arena, and careened into interior design. Today, I enjoy exploring the magical world of watercolors and encouraging creativity in others, most especially, as you probably guessed, in my 3-year-old grandson.

Regained my love of acrylic painting about 5 years ago after a 30 year break raising a family, and began by painting pictures for gifts for friends and family. Usually paint from photographs, and try to make my paintings look as realistic as i can.
I've been painting for about 7 years now, I paint with oils and acrylics, and now I'm dabbing into watercolors. I love sketching. I paint just for fun and family and a few friends.
I have been living in NC since 2016, after spending 20 years in Colorado. A photographer for many years transformed my art to canvas using inks and paints. I focus on abstract art and constantly trying new blends of colors and styles. I am retired from the corporate world and just want to paint all day!
